A Guideline for Acceptance Testing

Follow these steps to comprehensively evaluate your new custom SMT solution.

Step 1

Visual & Dimensional Inspection

Upon receiving your custom part, conduct a thorough visual check. Compare it against the approved technical drawings. Verify critical dimensions, surface finish, and overall build quality. Ensure there are no physical defects from shipping.

Step 2

Machine Fitment & Calibration

Mount the nozzle or gripper onto the designated SMT machine. Confirm that it fits securely in the placement head. Run the machine's standard calibration routines to ensure the vision system correctly recognizes the tool and its offsets are accurately set.

Step 3

Dry Run Pick-and-Place

Perform a series of pick-and-place cycles without solder paste or a live PCB. This tests the tool's ability to pick the component from the feeder, travel to the placement location, and release it smoothly without issue.

Step 4

Live Production Trial

Conduct a small, controlled production run using the actual PCBs and components. This is the most critical test to evaluate performance under real-world conditions. Place a statistically significant number of components (e.g., 100-500) for analysis.

Step 5

Performance Data Analysis

Analyze the results from the live trial. Key metrics to check include the pick-up rate (should be >99.9%), placement accuracy (X, Y, and rotation), and the rate of any defects such as component damage, shifting, or tombstones.

Step 6

Final Approval & Feedback

If the tool meets or exceeds performance expectations, provide your final approval. If any issues are found, document them with data and images and provide this feedback to our engineering team for rapid analysis and resolution.
